Harrumph! I bought a racquetball racket about six or seven years ago. Seemed fine at the time but now I’m circling back, doing a little research, I realize the problem I’ve been having all along: the freakin’ thing is too heavy. For those of your scoring at home (I’m jealous), the standard weight racquetball racket is around 170 grams. For younger, much stronger players, the recommended weight is 150 grams. For the senior crowd, they figure around 190 (to add to the swing follow-through). The racket I purchases so long ago is actually 195 grams, off the freakin’ charts. So, I figure I should be around the 170 to 180 gram crowd (there is no 160 to speak of).
I’ve tried out some rackets from a local store (great demo policy — for free) and have taken both to my local court and tried them out. Has been interesting but hardly enlightening. I know very little about the subtleties of the game, so I’m not quiet sure which racket suit me and my playing style. Guess I’m going to angle for feel and see what happens. Without a doubt, these particular rackets are vastly superior to my old-skool version. Looking forward to seeing what else I can buy to add to my closet full of junk I rarely use. Ebay anyone?
