Once more into the breach, dear friends. Illegal immigration continues being the hot topic, and perhaps a key component of the 2008 campaign. Many will crash upon the rocks of the political landscape should they not, aggressively, have a resolution. But what will fix the issue?
About a year ago, I said it, and I’ll say it again: You cannot fix the illegal immigration issues without first fixing the border. First and foremost, the USA needs to build a wall. Not a fence, not a technological construct of some kind, but a Berlin Wall, Isreal Defense Force, kind of wall. An imposing structure which will stem 90% of the casual crossings (perhaps more). Once done, then you take the 10 to 20 million illegals and deport all those convicted of committing felonies in this country. The remaining millions, you integrate into our way of life. They become US citizens — period.
This would be a true, meaningful, amnesty, not the diluted version being currently foisted upon the American public. It would make sense. It would secure our border. It would integrate a valued, cultural viewpoint into the melting pot, and, over the long term, enhance our country as a whole.
