Finally got to the theater and saw the motion picture event of the decade! Uh, that is not entirely accurate, but certainly interesting. So, in a sentence or two, what was my reaction?
A mesmerizing banquet of sights and sounds, of textures and details. The characters were convincing, the ultra-violence wasn’t, and the storyline kept me interested. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I found ambiance of the comic-book presentation had the effect of transporting me to their created world of imagination and fantasy, where scribbled ideas can easily be transformed into reality. The rules of common warfare didn’t apply in 300, and nor should they because they would dispel the very concept, the very ideal which made this movie going experience well worth it. Though largely panned by the more serious critics, I think this movie appeals to the comic book, gaming generation, of which, I am a part (gaming anyway).
Final score? I rate it a strong 8 out of 10 “Matinée : Worth seeing in a theater, paying matinée prices and enduring matinée crowds.”
